Testimonials

Honestly could not recommend Amy enough! She came in and assessed my girl and helped by making some suggestions on new leads and helping distract and desensitise. I’ve already recommended her to my friends who have issues with their dogs!
Callie

Amy has been amazing helping us to train our muzzle adverse anxious dog. She is so knowledgeable and patient. She is always ready with advice and the support she offers outside of training sessions shows how dedicated she is. I would highly recommend Amy.
Pablo

I found Amy to be very helpful and friendly when dealing with my dog that was anxious and being reactive in certain situations. She gave me loads of ideas and strategies to work on and after 3 sessions my dog seems less anxious than he was before. I could contact her at any time if I needed more advice. I would recommend Amy to anyone who is having any issues with their dog.

Would really recommend Amy, have just finished a 6 week course with our puppy , Ted.She was very informative and covered the essentials needed for a good start to a puppy’s well being and behaviour.

Amy was so knowledgeable and put in so much effort for the puppies in her puppy classes, from little welcome packs to puppy class diplomas. Gucci has developed really good behaviours and we now feel confident in reinforcing her training moving forward. Definitely recommend Southpaws!

I’m so glad I found Amy, she’s been so helpful with our dogs and their individual needs. She really understood the root cause of their behaviours and everything I have done that she suggested has made such a difference already. I’d recommend her to anyone needing some support, particularly with “spirited” puppies! Thank you Amy.

She is very knowledgeable in what she does and I would have no hesitation recommending her to anyone looking for help. keep up the amazing work Amy and thank you for all your help and support with Duggy x

Amy was recommended to me by a friend and now I know why. Amy taught us some techniques to be able to recall, desensitise to name a few. She is very supportive and always at the end of the phone. I have used Amy’s services on a couple of occasions (even on a Sunday) and would definitely recommend. Thank you Amy for all your help and support x

About Me
Amy Jordan DipCABT, C.C.A.B, RVN
COAPE Certified Animal Behaviourist andRegistered Veterinary Nurse
My training and qualifications
I am a COAPE certified Animal Behaviourist and Registered Veterinary Nurse RVN.
I am fully qualified and remain up-to- date with the most current practices in behaviour, undertaking continuous professional development and training.
I have worked within the veterinary profession as a Registered Veterinary Nurse for over a decade, providing general and specialist care to a range of species, in a variety of settings including; referral, hospital, exotics, rescue and first opinion practice in Hampshire, Sussex and even Thailand.
I work with dogs and cats at varying stages of health and rehabilitation and with many animals displaying nervous, fearful and aggressive behaviours.
I have worked alongside both companion animals and exotic species, ranging from dogs and cats to parrots, reptiles and elephants.
I have always had great empathy and compassion towards animals and their emotional well-being, as well as a fascination with human and animal psychology.
Why I became a Behaviourist
I have experienced first hand the emotional journey of pet ownership.
I rescued an adolescent imported dog in my early twenties whilst studying, having always had very easygoing family dogs...... and I was not prepared for the challenge.
I have been the owner thinking "what have I done", wishing my dog could just be "normal", adapt to every situation and accept every person.
I wanted to understand more about why my own rescue dog demonstrated aggressive behaviours and how I could improve his quality of life and our life together.
After several years working alongside animals as a Veterinary Nurse with an interest in behaviour, I decided it was time to further my academic understanding and practical application of behaviour and training.
I applied to study with COAPE (Centre Of Applied Pet Ethology) undertaking a Diploma in Companion Animal Behaviour Therapy (DipCABT) successfully achieving a distinction. I am a proud member of CABTI (COAPE Association of Behaviourists and Trainers International), The UK Dog Behaviour and Training Charter and ICAN (International Companion Animal Network).
My training methods and ethos
I like dogs to be dogs,
I practice force-free, reward-based training, using modern behavioural scientific research and methodology.
My aim is to help you develop a cooperative relationship based on trust, respect and understanding between yourself and your companion.
I do not use or advocate the use of punishment based training or tools that cause physical or emotional pain or discomfort to animals.
I adhere to a professional code of conduct and advocate a 'do no harm' policy with no judgement. There is no one size fits all approach to my training, each dog and family are unique and training is tailor-made for your specific needs.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Please take the time to read our payment, cancellation and refund policy and note that payment is made at time of booking.
If working alongside a Veterinary Surgeon, I will send a Behaviour Report following our first session to your referring Veterinarian, detailing only appropriate information regarding my assessment of your dog and recommendations for training. Your personal information will otherwise be strictly confidential and will not be shared with any other third party.
Photographs and videos taken of your pet during training may be shared on our social media accounts, (Facebook/Instagram/Tik Tok) or on our website. We will always ask for your verbal consent prior to doing so.
If you or your dog is sick or injured, please inform me prior to your consultation or training session.
In some cases, your dog may require muzzle training prior to a consultation to ensure the safety of all involved during our training sessions, don’t worry I can help you with this via remote/video training sessions.
In cases of aggression, you may be asked to ensure your dog is safely muzzled and appropriately restrained or secured prior to my arrival.
It is your responsibility to ensure that your dog is kept under control at all times.
Working with exempt XL Bully’s
Working with dogs is extremely rewarding but comes at a risk because dogs are unpredictable. I love working with all breeds however recent changes to legislation require Southpaws Behaviour and Training to set out clear terms and conditions when working with prohibited breeds.
If you have an exempt XL Bully, please read the terms and conditions as set out below. If you understand and agree to these terms and conditions, please sign and date at the end of this document.
Southpaws Behaviour and Training: Working with exempt XL Bully's. Terms and Conditions
If you have an exempt XL Bully (now a prohibited breed listed under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991), you will be required to provide a copy of your certificate of exemption prior to any behaviour assessment or training session.
Working with an exempt dog will be a decision made on an individual case-by-case basis and will always require you to have a consultation with your Veterinary Surgeon prior to a behaviour assessment or training session. This is necessary in order to rule out any underlying medical cause that could contribute to any behaviour changes. The Veterinary Surgeon will then be required to refer your dog to me for behavioural assessment and training.
I may recommend remote consultations are more appropriate for your dog.
During any in person consultation (including inside your own home or secure private field) you will be responsible for keeping your dog under control at all times. Your dog will be required to wear a secure muzzle, a secure collar, and or harness and lead and an additional slip lead for security.
It is at my (Amy Jordan’s) discretion whether or not the muzzle can be removed during in person training sessions, this would only take place within your own home or in a secure private field, with only myself and the owner or the exempt dog present, this is compliant with the current regulations and Southpaws Behaviour and Training's insurance policy with Petplan Sanctuary. Failure to comply with this will result in immediate termination of your training session, your training session will be non-refundable.
During any public training session, the owner of the exempt dog is responsible for keeping the exempt dog under strict control at all times and the owner is required to follow the rules set out by the government. Information on this can be found using the following link
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/ban-on-xl-bully-dogs
Southpaws Behaviour and Training is insured with Petplan Sanctuary, this includes Third Party Public Liability Insurance however this cover does not extend to the individual exempt dog or owner of the exempt dog.
